The Solentiname Archipelago is composed by 36 islands in the southeast of Lake of Cocibolca or Lake of Nicaragua and with a total surface of 4,020 hectares.

On the biggest islands there are some small villages where the inhabitants are famous for their artworks in wood and paintings made with a base of vinegar.

The climate of Solentiname is typical tropical and there is a rainy season that stretches from May to December. The rainfall during this period is about 1,500 cm and the temperature varies between 24 and 28 degrees Celsius.

The archipelago presents a great variety in flora and fauna. The vegetation could be divided into different climate zones, between humid and dry. Nevertheless the greatest part is covered by a young rainforest and the majority of the population lives from agriculture.
