The River San Juan

The river San Juan has been witness of many important historical events during the Colonial era.

The river is approximately 200 kilometers long and brings water from Lake of Cocibolca to the Caribbean coast.

Nevertheless the river is calm and peaceful even if there is a strong current. By the riverbanks you can discover ecological wonders and a Natural Reserve of great importance for the environment.

"El Castillo" is a fort constructed by the Spanish in order to protect the country from British and French pirates and other interested in conquering mainly Granada. Recently "El Castillo" was transformed into a museum that provides information about the past and River San Juan.

Every year in November a famous fishing championship is celebrated by the River San Juan.
