Those towns are situated in the north of Nicaragua and surrounded by beautiful green mountains and tropical humid rainforest with a great variety of flora and fauna. Matagalpa has a refreshing climate and bypassing River Grande is the second longest river in Nicaragua, going all way to the Caribbean Sea. In this area, indigenous communities using the old dialect Nahuatl can still be found.

In September the cities organize "Feria del Guipil y Mayurca" that is celebrated with traditional dances from the five northern districts of Nicaragua. The same dances are being performed in "Feria del café" and during the two festivities there are as well processions, bullfighting and agricultural markets.
