Founded by the Spanish in the 16 th century, Esteli is the capital of the district and the principal city between Managua and the border of Honduras in northwest Nicaragua. Esteli is situated at high altitude of about 840 m (2750 feet) and surrounded by a prosperous agricultural area. This land is ideal for growing tobacco, sesame seed and other grains as well as cattle farming and dairy production. Additionally, you will encounter wooden artworks and hats that can only be found in this area.
